SKELETRON BALL: wrap up!
This past weekend was Skeletron Ball, a three day, electronic-heavy music festival put together by JT Bringardner (Spirit Tramp), Spirit Cat and friends. This festival is the third of it’s kind; sister to Total Bummer and the second annual Skeletron Ball. Lucky for us, several of the founders are good friends of ours and we were graciously allowed to set up a Grooveshark table at the event. The weekend resulted in hours of music-watching, beer-drinking, whiskey-in-the-car shot-taking, semi-pornographic acrobatics, post-Halloween costumes/facepaint, and of course the occasional networking and socializing.
Some of my favorite acts from the weekend include:
Jane Jane Polluck, a four-piece noise/folk band that gave our chef temporary neck pains from head banging too hard
Praything, a two-piece electronic indie with a big live sound. I fell in love with the live drums, heavy synth, indistinguishable vocals and the front man’s courageous donning of a half-pony.
TEEPEE, a one-man electronic wonder band – it sounds a little ‘90s, a little shoegaze, a little New Order, and a lot awesome. All I could think of to say when I approached him was – “it sounded like … well, I wished it would never end”. Surprisingly, my inability-to-form-intelligent-sentences description was dead on.
Levek, Gainesville’s own local indie that has recently been stealing the hearts of bloggers everywhere - blowing up on Pitchfork and peaking at the #9 hyped band on Hype Machine last week. Their live show was just as impressive as their most blogged about single, “Look on the Bright Side”. Congo drums, regular drums, flute, keyboard, guitar, bass, more guitar - all blended together to create a sensational, funky, psychedelic live experience.
And of course my old favorites, Rabbit Punch, Plastic Plastic, Michael Parallax
