Grooveshark Sessions @The Fest: The Wild

Last Halloween, we had the opportunity to meet & mingle with several artists during the Fest 9 and our first annual “Grooveshark Sessions”. Around 17 artists met up with us at Medusa Studios to record one live, acoustic track and an interview to be exclusively released via Grooveshark. After months of unwinding, editing, mixing, mastering, etc. - the tracks and interviews are here!
Next is The Wild, a “happy hardcore” group from Atlanta, GA. Their upbeat melodramatic indie pop may remind you at moments of bands like Fake Problems or Lemuria, but once we stripped down their normally upbeat aesthetic into a much quieter set, we started discovering more Americana-influenced sounds a la Ryan Adams, The Mountain Goats, or Langhorne Slim. Check out the resulting track and interview with Witt Wisebram, Dianne Settles, and Steve D’Agostino of The Wild:
We’re with the Wild from Atlanta, GA. How did it go for you guys, did you have fun?
Steve: Yeah! Killed it. In one take. Actually, three.
Are you guys mostly on the road, or do you play a lot of shows in Atlanta?
Witt: We try to keep the shows in Atlanta to just one or two a month – we don’t want to burn out the local scene. But we have been touring a lot lately, and we’re getting ready to be on tour for another few weeks coming up. We’re actually really excited to be here in Gainesville – it’s kicking off our tour this fall.
How long have you guys been together as a band?
W: I think The Wild has been a band for probably over 2 years. We’ve had a lot of different members, kind of a revolving cast.
What’s your favorite city to play in?
S: Lexington!
Lexington, Kentucky?
S: Yeah!
Why is Lexington so awesome?
S: Well, we played Crucial Fun Fest, which was put together by our friend Anthony who runs Sidejar Records. That was just an incredible experience that gets better every year. This past year was very fun in a dangerous situation - with a lot of low ceiling fans and a lot of people hollering and hooting.
W: We also have some really good friends in Richmond who always put on great shows. I don’t know – I like playing everywhere. We’ve had good shows in Florida too – here in Gainesville at Wayward Council.
So, this your first time playing the Fest. Do you have any expectations for the weekend, or anything you’d like to accomplish while you’re here?
Dianne: I heard about vegan hot dogs and ice cream – I think that I want to accomplish that.
S: I want to see if I can set a new record for how much sweat I can get out of my body tonight.
W: I think we’re all really excited to play tonight - Friday night – because then we can just pack up the van and have the whole rest of the weekend to hang out and see all of the bands that we want to see. We’re really excited. A lot of the bands that we’ve made friends with over the last couple of years are here. Just the chance to have everyone together will be really cool!
Can you guys name me a collective favorite food?
W: Oh god, that’s going to be really hard. We’re all vegan except for Steve, who’s the total opposite of vegan.
D: He eats no vegetables.
S: Can we make a consensus? I was going to say - crystallized ginger.
W: Is that even food?
D: That’s a food stuff!
S: For real food, let’s just say Soylent Green.
D: Soylent green and healing crystals.
S: Vegan healing crystals!
Looking forward to your set – that’s all I need! Thank you guys so much!
